first trip to the ER

the story:  We had just arrived at James' parents house to see his family and to play with cousins. We were in the house for maybe 5 minutes, parker runs around the corner to go downstairs.. trips on his shoes and goes head first into the bannister post. I ran over to him and at first i thought he would just have a bump on his head or something, then he started crying and yelling, my eye my eye! he wouldn't let us look at it for awhile but janel and janeen both got a quick glance at it and told me we would need to take him to the ER. what? i didn't even know what to do. i just held him and tried to calm him down.
thank goodness they were there because i wouldn't have known what to do! they were so helpful. Janeen took us to the hospital and Janel kept the twins with her (thanks again, that really was so great)
lets just say parker was NOT excited to go to the hospital. Janeen and i talked him through it all the way there and i'm not even sure what we said... i know the call to dad helped and james was able to talk to him and he did laugh a little during the conversation.  He was more okay with it when we arrived. right when we walked in we told the secretary that this was his first experience at the ER and he said, well good thing we sent all our mean doctors home tonight, we only have nice ones now!!
best thing he could have said.

From then on, parker was a champ. he showed nurse after nurse his eye, told them what happened and was a such a good boy. i was so proud. he was still nervous and wanted to know exactly what they were going to do (he always does, and i've learned he does much better knowing details)
The doctor then told me that he didn't necessarily NEED stitches... he would just have a huge scar there as big as the cut. He said if it was his kid, he would stitch it, but he left it up to me. He would also have to but put out, as they can't stitch up cuts close to the eye, they can't hold them down. I was nervous after he explained the risks of it... but i knew that was the only way it would work, i was glad they had to put him out, it pretty much would have been an even more traumatic experience.
that was the crazy part. they got everything ready, the nurse got the shot ready ( can't remember what it was called..) parks got upset because i didn't tell him about getting a shot but 10 seconds later he was OUT! he was laying on me, he sat up looked around the room like he didn't know what was going on.. and collapsed on my lap again. the doctor walked in, yep he is out! they laid him down and started stitching him up. i can't describe how crazy it was. he was instantly asleep, snoring in 20 seconds. His eyes were wide open, that was kinda creepy, and just was out like a light! the doctors were great, and funny too. they were laughing and talking to him. they told me, "this is what it looks like when you are stoned. if he ever comes home like this and you aren't at a hospital... it is not a good thing. ha. so funny.   well after they were done, they just said he will be loopy when he wakes up so have your camera ready. OF COURSE my phone died... and all i can say is i WISH i could have got a clip of him waking up. It took him awhile, like at least 45 minutes.. he opened his eyes, said "Hi mom" in the cutest voice and asked when we could go home. He had to be able to sit up by himself, eat a popsicle and drink some juice before they released him. he did it all pretty fast, all he wanted to do was go home. that is where he was loopy. he didn't really say funny things but he was a little bobble head! it was so funny, he kept falling over, and just looking around the room. it was like he was an infant trying to hold their head up! he did tell the doctor that he was seeing TWO of everything, that was pretty funny.
2 hours later, we were released and parker was ready to get back to his cousins. he did so good and i was happy it went well. i was a nervous wreck and shaking more than he was! It was our first trip to the ER and i hope not the first of many. parks doesn't do well with pain and hates getting hurt.. but he did awesome. i was pretty shocked to be honest. but happy at the same time.

poor guy

it was crazy to watch. i've always been okay with seeing blood and all this but it wasn't as fun watching them do it to your little boy:(
sorry these may be a little graphic...

i thought i'd be a little freaked out watching him lay like that. but i couldn't help but laugh. i couldn't believe how fast it knocked him out. crazy what medicine can do.
he survived and i survived :)

back to grandma's house
we came home to aunt Janel and the kids writing welcome home parker with chalk.
big hugs to him and notes that they had written. he is so loved.
I'm just happy we got that first trip over with! i'm so glad Janeen came with me i'm not sure what i would have done by myself! she was so great and helpful.

 notes to parker. so sweet

a few pictures we took while he was healing..
he told everyone he ran into about his eye... he thought it was pretty cool
good thing you are cute that is all i gotta say!!!:)
update: parker got his stitches out a week later. lets just say that was pretty much more traumatic than getting the stitches in. My aunt cyndi did it and parker did NOT want to. he said he was scared. we ended up having 3-4 of us holding him down, him screaming and me getting more and more mad. it was rough i won't lie. maybe he would have done better at the hospital. i was embarrassed. that is probably not being a nice mom, but having to always talk parker through something and then him still having a complete melt down wears me out sometimes. It's over and i'm happy about that. of course right after he wants to go get a toy that i had told him we can go get (if he was good that is) i remember cyndi saying, you might not want to ask your mom right now. ha. gosh it was more traumatic for me than him! it was hard holding him down! it took me all day to calm down about it too. maybe it's silly and when i look back it was... but sometimes being a mom is sooo hard! you want to love and care for them but when they don't let you and freak out then it is hard!! okay i'm done. hope we don't have anymore trips to the ER for a while!!!!
adam is my crazy one, i pray ever day for him. he jumps off everything, falls down daily, does flips anywhere and everywhere and is just a crazy kid. simply said.
i will continue praying for all 3 of their safety:)

I hate the ER. Not because the people there are bad, but the circumstances that get you there are always bad. I had to take Sadie once...not too bad (she wasn't really hurt as much as we thought) and I had to be taken once which was pretty scary. Looks like Parker held up pretty well and you survived too! Hope you don't have to go back anytime soon.

Ha! I JUST got home from the ER for my first set of stitches as a mom! (last month we had a close call, but they glued it.) tonight one of the twins fell backwards through a window and needed 3 stitches. I didn't even hear her crying for awhile because a movie was on. So sad. ;( I hope Parker heals well!
